GateGuard Setup

We recommend sharing GateGuard with other household members and connecting with an Amazon Alexa to maximize awareness and redundancy

Installing GateGuard

  • First install the app and ensure GateGuard operates as expected using the step-by-step instructions and video below.
    • Once connected to the app, play with the device by moving the parts away from each other and back together again. Ensure you understand how much of a gap is required to send an open/close signal to the app on your phone.
  • Prepare the surface of the entry you want to monitor by wiping clean, and ensure the gap is small enough that it shows as closed on the app when held in position.
    • When positioning GateGuard you typically place the larger main unit to the left of the smaller unit.
    • You can turn the main unit upside down and place on the right if you only have room on the left for the smaller unit, e.g., on a Garage Door rail.
    • There are small raised indents on the inside of each unit - these must meet together when the entryway is closed.
  • Peel the back off and stick it on!

Install the app and setup GateGuard

  1. First install the SmartLife App for iOS or Android and open the app.
  2. Make sure you're smartphone is connected to your local wifi 2.4ghz network (not 5ghz).
  3. Make sure the GateGuard Sensor has the batteries correctly pre-installed by sliding the back of the cover down and off.
  4. Press and hold down the button on the back above the batteries for 3-5 seconds and make sure the red dot is flashing on the front of the Sensor.
  5. GateGuard should get automatically discovered by the app if you have bluetooth enabled on your phone when you select 'Add Device'.
    1. If the GateGuard Sensor is not automatically discovered you can manually add it by choosing Sensors>Wifi Sensor from the add device menu.
  6. Now follow the instructions within the app to provide the GateGuard Sensor with your local WiFi password to connect the device to your home network.
  7. Give your sensor an appropriate name like Pool or Dog Gate and stick onto the gate you want to monitor - you will now receive alerts whenever it is opened!
